Horse and Mouse Conversational Prints

I am very excited that this conversational print blouse finally came out in stores! I loved working on them, and I'm excited they're offering it in both prints. The horse and mouse started out as little acrylic paintings that I did, so it's exciting to finally see them on the garment.

Anthropologie Blogger Event 2011, NYC

This is me and my co-worker Nicole Venice smiling for the photobooth at the Anthropologie showroom in NYC. Nicole selects the color palettes each season at Anthropologie, as well as individually selecting the color of every garment we produce!

Here is my Japanese bird print on display at the blogger event. On the left you can see the strike-offs we got back from the mill in the colorways we pitched. We usually narrow it down to one favorite, and the navy one was selected to go in the store.

This video was made for the blogger event to show how we put together the Fall '11 collection. You will see interviews with my boss, Kate Gould as well as our Creative Directors Judy Collinson and Johanna Uurasjarvi, and our Color Designer Nicole Venice in the video. And my hand made it into the video!! Just look for the hand painting birds-- it's me!  :)

Here comes Fall

Fall is almost here and we are all excited to see our Fall '11 collection making it into stores! The concept of Japan was the starting point for our prints in this collection. We looked at the traditional Japanese techniques of indigo dyeing, woodblock printing, and shibori to create some beautiful textures and colors, and we also tried to mix in our modern interpretation of Japanese prints with painterly ink drawings, woodland forest scenes, and conversational prints with birds and owls. Our creative director wanted to capture the look of a modern-day nomad, and we did a lot of print mixing as well. Here are the ones that have made it into the store so far.
My original Japanese bird print! this is definitely one of my favorite prints to work on.

Late Summer Prints: La Mer

We added some fun, beach inspired prints for summer as well after our creative director visited Montauk, NY. We looked at the faded colors of a sunset and worn out, sun-bleached stripes and scenic landscapes for inspiration. Here are the ones I worked on.
 Montauk, NY.
My original print! A hand-painted brushy stripe!
The designers flipped this fabric inside-out for a more faded look.
